Exploring Sculpture Museums in Stockholm
Stockholm’s art scene is often associated with painting and photography, but sculpture also plays a remarkable role in the city’s cultural landscape. Across parks, waterfront terraces, and historic studios, visitors can explore works by some of Sweden’s most celebrated sculptors.
Many of these institutions are also featured in our guide to Stockholm art museums, which provides an overview of the city’s most important art collections.
Several sculpture sites are also located on Djurgården and are explored in our guide to Art Museums on Djurgården.
Millesgården – Sculpture Garden Overlooking the Archipelago
Perched on terraces above the water on the island of Lidingö, Millesgården is one of Stockholm’s most spectacular sculpture museums.
Created by sculptor Carl Milles and his wife Olga Milles, the site features fountains, dramatic staircases, and bronze sculptures arranged across multiple garden terraces.
The museum complex includes both indoor galleries and outdoor sculpture gardens, offering panoramic views across the Stockholm archipelago.
Visitors interested in sculpture can also explore the Carl Eldh Studio Museum, where the sculptor’s original workshop remains preserved.

Carl Eldh Studio Museum – A Sculptor’s Preserved Workshop
Hidden in Bellevue Park north of central Stockholm, the
Carl Eldh Studio Museum preserves the workshop of one of Sweden’s most important early twentieth-century sculptors.
The studio was designed by architect Ragnar Östberg, who also created Stockholm City Hall. Inside the building, clay models, plaster casts, and finished sculptures remain arranged much as they were during Eldh’s lifetime.
The museum offers a rare glimpse into the creative process behind monumental public sculptures.
Another remarkable sculpture destination is Millesgården, where monumental sculptures are displayed in terraced gardens overlooking the water.

Prince Eugen’s Waldemarsudde – Sculpture in a Royal Garden
Located on Djurgården, Prince Eugen’s Waldemarsudde combines an art museum, royal residence, and sculpture garden. Nearby cultural institutions include Liljevalchs, one of Stockholm’s leading contemporary art venues.
The museum is best known for Nordic paintings from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, but sculptures are also displayed throughout the surrounding park.
Visitors can explore artworks set among gardens and coastal views overlooking the entrance to Stockholm’s harbor.
Sculpture gardens also appear at Millesgården sculpture museum, where works by Carl Milles are displayed across dramatic terraces.

Sculpture in Stockholm’s Cultural Landscape
These museums demonstrate how sculpture interacts with Stockholm’s natural scenery. Unlike traditional gallery spaces, sculpture gardens invite visitors to experience art outdoors, where light, water, and landscape become part of the artistic setting.
From Millesgården’s dramatic terraces to the intimate atmosphere of Carl Eldh’s studio, sculpture museums offer a different perspective on Stockholm’s artistic heritage.
