Museum of Sigtuna, Sweden

Description of Sigtuna museum

Sigtuna, a town founded on the shore of Lake Mälaren 1,000 years ago, was once Swedens most important city housing the royal courts, political contacts and center of the newly introduced Christianism.

At this time, Sweden was entering a new era as the Viking period became medieval. The city continued to operate as a royal and comercial centre for some 250 years, and is still today full of memories from this important era in Swedens history.

Today Sigtuna is an idyll well worth a visit, especially the market on sundays, with picturesque wooden houses, spacious gardens and a well-known town hall.
